Cold Noses Warm Hearts Foster Care Program
Our program has been established to provide potentially adoptable animals with temporary homes until they’re ready to be placed up for adoption at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Cold Noses Warm Hearts is the Center's foster program. This program allows Center animals to spend time in a home before going up for adoption. Animals are placed in foster homes for many reasons: an animal may be in need of socialization, be healing from an injury, and or may still be too young to go up for adoption.

What Kind Of Animals Need A Foster Home?
We need foster homes for both cats and dogs. Our most common foster care situations include the following:

We also would like to have some back up foster care providers for “other” animals if the need arises, such as rabbits, birds, and livestock.

How Long Would I Foster For?

What Would My Responsibilities Be?
We expect the following from our Foster Parents:

How Do I Become A Foster Parent?

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent for the Cold Noses Warm Hearts Program, please fill out an application and return it to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, or contact for Foster Care Coordinator at (319)-541-8631.

After receiving your application, we will schedule an orientation for you on the type(s) of animal you wish to foster and do a home inspection to be sure you can provide a safe home for our animals. After that we will add you to our list of people to be called when foster animals become available.
